I came to You in prayer today
Not knowing all that I would say.
Your Holy Spirit moved in me,
Spoke through me like poetry—
Prayers that I could not invent,
Yet truly were my heart’s intent.
So rapidly the time passed by;
I don’t know in which hour I began to cry.
You showed me who I really am—
A guilty sinner cleansed by the Lamb.
At times I feared, at times I shook,
At times I was ashamed to look.
But Your sweet love reminded me
That by Your blood You’ve set me free.
You let me sit there clean and pure,
Because of the suffering You endured.
Oh sweet prayer can do so much!
You held me today and I felt Your touch.
I’d be a fool to neglect such bliss;
This world does not offer anything like this.
Forbid me, my God, to leave You alone;
I would never make it here on my own.
